14th National Women Softball Championship 2018

The 14th National Women Softball Championship 2018 took place in Baluchistan, hosted by the Baluchistan Softball Association in collaboration with Baluchistan Sports Board. The tournament went on for three days, it began on the 5th of November 2018 and concluded on the 7th of November 2018. The SFP President Haider Khan Lehri had appointed BSA’s Naseem Khan as the Organizing Secretary for the championship.

The Participants Were:
1) Army
2) WAPDA
3) Punjab
4) Sindh
5) KPK
6) Baluchistan
7) Islamabad

The tournament took place in Quetta, in the Government Girls Cant College. Mr Ahmed Nawaz, Member of the Provincial Assembly of Baluchistan inaugurated the three-day event and the opening match of the championship was played between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Baluchistan’s women teams.

The weather was harsh and many of the players were not used to playing in such conditions, the girls from Sindh found it particularly difficult as temperatures rarely drop so low in their respective hometowns. The highs could go up to 15° and the lows could drop to 1°. Regardless, the girls had to power through as the show had to go on.

Both the Army and WAPDA teams showed their dominance in this tournament but utterly decimating any competition they faced. The Army girls thrashed the Punjab team 16-0 and then continued to defeat Sindh as well by 15-1. WAPDA was just as brutal, defeating Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 15-0, as well as Baluchistan with another 15-0 victory. It seemed that the tournament had been set just to showcase the Army and WAPDA’s talent.

But, that isn’t to say the other teams were pushovers. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa managed to defeat Baluchistan by two runs in which KPK girls scored 18 runs in five innings with Hina Farooq scoring four runs against Baluchistan’s 16 runs in total. Punjab managed to beat Sindh in although not an easy showing but managed without too much difficulty. They scored 19 runs in their five innings through their star players Aqsa, Saba, Kiran and Rabia who scored three runs each while Sindh scored only nine runs in their five innings.

In the end, the final came down to the front runners of the tournament the Army Girls and WAPDA. The Army girls gave WAPDA a run for their money and took the fight to them, but the girls representing WAPDA would not go down without giving it their all, they’d been playing with everything they had and it showed. In the end, though, the Army girls came out on top and beat WAPDA to become the Champions.
